Beckman Coulter announced the launch of its DxU iris work unit at the AACC annual scientific conference and clinical laboratory expo. DxU Iris Workcell is a fully automated system that is expected to simplify the urine analysis workflow and reduce manual review to 4%.

Routine urinalysis is one of the most frequently ordered tests, accounting for 30% of all samples received by the laboratory. Many of these samples require manual inspection by laboratory technicians, which can disrupt the workflow and significantly increase the workload. Whether it's confirming the analyzer's findings or identifying unique particle types, manual microscopy can be very time-consuming, and the time per sample can be 6 times longer than an automated system.

Using DxU Iris Workcell to automate routine urine analysis workflows can reduce sample subjectivity and variability, help laboratories of all sizes standardize processes, shorten turnaround times, and provide high-quality results.

Dr. Peter Soltani, senior vice president and general manager of Beckman Coulter Hematology, Urinalysis, and Workflow Information Technology Solutions said: "There is no doubt that the pandemic has increased the pressure on clinical laboratories." "In this stressful environment Among them, manual reviews are particularly burdensome because they are labor-intensive and require time and attention away from scientific work. We designed DxU Iris Workcell to allow urine analysis operators to automatically classify sediment particles, minimizing manual intervention need."

DxU Iris Workcell pairs the DxU 850m Iris or DxU 840m Iris urine microscope analyzer with the Arkray AUTION MAX™ 4030 urine chemistry analyzer to create a scalable fully automated urine analysis solution. The work unit uses proprietary digital flow morphology technology and automatic particle recognition (APR) software development, enabling laboratories to use artificial intelligence (AI) to provide standardized results. This industry-leading technology can separate, identify, and characterize urine particles to provide instant, accurate, and repeatable results that are verified directly on the screen.

"As a medical technician, it is important to me that any new analyzer we bring into the laboratory can improve the workflow, and is easy to use and minimally maintained. DxU Iris has multiple functions that can help medical technology People work more efficiently. One of the features is a user guide with key reference information on the home screen," said Jennifer Soria, hematology coordinator for a medical group in Florida. "I like the new loading and unloading station because it can accommodate multiple shelves, allowing users to work in other areas of the laboratory while processing urine samples."

DxU Iris Workcell is designed for large-capacity laboratories and has the following features:

• An optional loading and unloading station, increasing the rack capacity for a total of 190 on-board samples

• Intuitive software user interface, easy to browse the analyzer menu, access key reference information and simplify user training, the format is consistent with a variety of Beckman Coulter instruments (including hematology, chemistry and immunoassay)

• Connect with Beckman Coulter's advanced informatics software solutions: PROService remote service tool, DxONE Command Central remote monitoring and REISOL Advance middleware
